The Night Feast is back.
The month-long festival when some of the city’s most coveted restaurants – including Clarence, Pilloni and Central – serve up market-style food and bites kicked off last night at the Brisbane Powerhouse.
The Night Feast will continue until Sunday 23rd August, and it’s not just about the food. The massive event includes art installations and bar pop-ups scattered throughout the dining area and inside the Powerhouse.
There are 20 vendors at this year’s event. All are excellent. But here’s what we think is important.
Norte
Gold Coast restaurant Norte launches M1 for the Night Feast, bringing its modern South American cuisine. The team behind cult favorites Rick Shores, Southside, Central and Marlow serves up wagyu beef cheek, Gooralie braised pork and – in and exclusive to Night Feast – a delicious churro Pick, topped with Mooloolaba prawns and avocado.

Clarence
This is a favorite way of fish run by two of the city’s best young chefs, Ben McShane and Matt Kuhnemann, they serve a top-of-the-pack snack pack with duck leg confit, cheddar curds and cornichons that compliment the fries. The pumpkin pie doughnut, complete with pumpkin custard and pie spice sugar is up there with the best dessert options too.
Pillar
Modern Italian West End spot Pilloni it offers comfort food at its best. A perfectly presented 70-seat restaurant on Hardgrave Road in the West End, it sets itself apart by cooking food from Sardinia.
This year’s market signature dish is agnello al fuoco (wood-smoked lamb, chili sauce, salsa verde and rocket). Pork and beef ragout, Sardinian carasau lasagna and Australian Swordfish skewers are also available. Wash it all down with a glass of Sardinian vino.
Today Pinoy
Hoy Pinoy Market, now a permanent fixture in the Brisbane Powerhouse, fills the air with the delicious aroma of grilled meat on any given night.
James and Regina Meehan’s Filipino food stall is also a popular addition to festivals around the country. Try the salpicao and baka (charcoal-grilled Angus beef over rice) for something different or stick with the classic chicken skewers and pork belly.
Ruby, my love
Newstead vinyl bar and izakaya Ruby, My Beloved is doing what they do best with Japanese-inspired comfort food at the night market.
The 80-seat venue offering a strong selection of Japanese-inspired cocktails and snacks, delivered with sound from stunning speakers hand-built in Tasmania, has become a favorite among Newstead and Teneriffe locals.
This year’s signature dish is carbonara – Japanese style – with udon, miso, Parmigiano Reggiano and of course, crispy pancetta. Diners can also expect chicken karaage, panko prawn brioche bun and eggplant katsu sando.
