There are no words meaning when Black Friday falls in April and lasts for two weeks. Originally coined to symbolize the pandemonium and chaos when holiday shopping met post-Thanksgiving football games, Black Friday has come to mean “discounts anytime.”
And so when The Home Depot says they have it “Black Friday Spring” sales are on, what they seem to be trying to say is that spring might as well be Christmas for a DIY and backyard kit. It’s time to shop. Except maybe for yourself.
However, most of these sales are not barn burners. But Home Depot is having a BOGO sale on tools from Milwaukee used and recommended by WIRED tester Scott Gilbertson. And Weber Grills are $50 to $100 off, including a few WIRED’s favorite greases in the world.
Here are the deals WIRED is tracking at Home Depot’s Black Friday Spring Sale, which ends April 22. Or check out all of Home Depot’s Black Friday deals below.
$50 off the Best Gas Grill for Many Families
For years, we’ve been recommending Weber’s 200 series Sprit grills as some of the best grills at the intersection of value and performance. The build quality is good, the cook is even, and the temperature on the propane burners is easy to adjust. As with all Webers, you can customize your grill’s workspace with accessories and quick options until it’s ready. Spirit already starts at an affordable price, with a 10-year warranty and ceramic-coated steel grates that make for easy cleaning and clean cooks. An additional $50 off is a nice cherry on top.
But keep in mind that while the Roho has all the grilling possibilities you’ll need for a large family, grill cooks who throw a lot of parties may want to upgrade. Genesis E-325 ($849) for a larger seating area with higher BTUs, added storage and preparation, and the option of an overhead grill. That also goes on sale in April, at a list price of $100.
BOGO Deals on Milwaukee, Dewalt, and Ryobi Tools
Another thing Home Depot likes to do is offer a BOGO on tools—in this case it’s packing a $200 tool and a $200 power pack for free. This is, needless to say, a good deal.
In the Milwaukee tool ecosystem used by WIRED reviewer and avid DIYer Scott Gilbertson—favored for its combination of value, durability and clean energy, various tools come with a free power pack.
But these BOGos can be a little crazy to sort through on the Home Depot website. So I have done a little work for you. Here are links to BOGO deals for Milwaukee, Ryobi, and DeWalt. You are welcome.
Steep Discounts on Ryobi Yard Tools
Longtime WIRED reviewer Parker Hall has long believed that Ryobi garden tools are the ecosystem most used by home gardeners and landscapers, from lawnmowers to chainsaws to lawn mowers.
Part of the reason is service: At least in our area (the Pacific Northwest), Ryobi doesn’t make you send tools elsewhere to be serviced. Instead, they put a repairman in storage, and he comes to you and fixes your mower. This is a wonderful thing. In any case, Hall says he rarely had reason to call his repairman. He just likes to know he’s there.
