After injuries and neglect, Kitchee’s Jordan Lam made the most of his second place

Stripped of several spots following his second serious knee injury at the age of 22, and overlooked by Hong Kong’s last manager, Jordan Lam Lok-kan has returned to the international squad and is targeting his second game in India next week.

Left-back Kitchee Lam, who spent a decade with English club Bury, staked his claim for selection when he missed the penalty that sealed the city side’s Chinese New Year Cup shootout victory over FC Seoul last month.

After cementing his reputation as a top prospect with a good strike in the 2019 Guangdong-Hong Kong Cup, Lam damaged his left ACL the following year and again in 2022.

“It was very difficult. The most important thing for me was the family support I had, and I just wanted to get back on the field to play for them,” said Lam, whose younger brother, Jerry, is on loan with the BC Rangers from Tai Po.

“Some people thought that I would never play again, or that I would come back but then retire. Every game I play now, my family comes to watch. I am very grateful.”

At the age of 17, Lam and current Hong Kong goalkeeper Tse Ka-wing spent a trial period with League One club Bury.
