China’s under-16 women’s team moved into second place at the Montaigu Soccer World Cup after a 2-1 win over hosts France on Wednesday, their second win in a row at the six-team tournament.
Zhou Jintong and He Fengqingyang both scored for the visitors as they emerged victorious at the Stade Maxime Bossis Stadium.
China took the lead in the 15th minute when Zhou curled a free kick into the top corner.
They doubled their advantage in the 45th minute after He controlled a long pass into the goal area and scored with a shot from the other side.
France reduced the deficit in the 73rd minute when Maelys Leduc scored a penalty.
There was a bit of controversy after the final whistle, with French players protesting the referee and then walking off the field to refuse to shake hands with their Chinese opponents.
