Netanyahu compares Jesus to Genghis Khan in Iran war speech, drawing backlash

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu denied accusations on Friday that he intended to offend Christians when he said the previous day that Jesus was “no better” than Genghis Khan.

“More fake news about my attitude to Christians, who are protected and flourishing in Israel. Let me be clear: I did not disparage Jesus Christ in my press conference,” Netanyahu wrote in English on the social network.

“On the contrary, I mentioned the famous American historian Will Durant. Much to the surprise of Jesus Christ, Durant said that morality alone is not enough to ensure that a person remains alive,” he added.

“A morally sound civilization can still fall to a brutal enemy if it lacks the ability to defend itself. No offense intended,” he said.

On Thursday evening, the Prime Minister said during a televised conference with foreign journalists that “history proves that, unfortunately and unfortunately, Jesus Christ does not have an advantage over Genghis Khan because if you are strong enough, cruel enough, capable enough, evil will win over good”.

“Aggression is going to win out of proportion. So you don’t have a choice,” he added, quoting Durant.
