The exterior of the iPad hasn’t changed much in the few years since it was last updated, with the screen growing by 0.1 inches and the usual USB-C port and selfie camera, as well as Touch ID built into the on/off button. Many changes affect the inside of the tablet, including a major processor upgrade to the A16 chip and storage which means that this tablet is smoother and more responsive than the 2022 version. There is twice as much storage, with 128 GB as a base and up to 512GB on the upgraded modelso you won’t need to keep deleting apps to make room for more movies.
Although it has the A16 processor, which is also found in the iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 15, and iPhone 15 Plus, the reduced RAM means no support for Apple Intelligence. Whether that’s an advantage or a disadvantage will depend on how much you like or dislike AI. Beyond the lack of Apple Intelligence, you’re only making compromises when it comes to the screen, which doesn’t have a laminate, so the Apple Pencil doesn’t feel as sharp as it does on other iPads, and it doesn’t have nano text, so bright and bright rooms can be an issue.
For most people, the 2025 iPad A16 will be a more than adequate tablet for streaming, web browsing, and even light gaming.
