Taylor Swift sued for trademark infringement over the title of her Life of a Showgirl album



Pop star Taylor Swift was sued by a Las Vegas singer on Monday who said Swift’s latest album. The Life of a Showgirl infringes its trademark rights.

Maren Wade said in the complaint that the sale to Swift of The album threatened to “turn off” for a long time Showgirl Evidence stage show and asked the court to prevent Swift from creating confusion with the title of her album.

Representatives for Swift and her label Universal Music Group, also a defendant, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Wade’s lawyer Jaymie Parkkinen said they “have a lot of respect for Swift’s talent and achievements but trademark law exists to ensure that creators at all levels can protect what they have created”.

The Life of a ShowgirlSwift’s 12th album, released in October, broke Spotify’s streaming records on its way to becoming the best-selling album of 2025.

Wade said in the complaint that she began writing her “Confessions of a ⁠Showgirl” column for Las Vegas Weekly in 2014.
