A US federal appeals court allowed the Trump administration on Monday to temporarily resume deporting undocumented immigrants to countries they don’t belong to.
The U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, in a 2-1 vote, lifted a lower court ban on so-called third-country deportations.
District Judge Brian Murphy ruled last month that deportations to a third country are illegal but put his decision on hold to give the government time to file an appeal.
The appeals court lifted the stay of deportation by the district court judge and said they can proceed while the case is being heard.
Attorney General Pam Bondi welcomed the appeals court’s decision, calling it a “significant victory” for US President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda.
Trump campaigned for the White House on a promise to deport millions of undocumented immigrants.
