Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf has dismissed the US president’s threat to bomb Iran’s civilian infrastructure unless the Strait of Hormuz is reopened.
US President Donald Trump’s war with Iran is making life worse for ordinary Americans, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said in response to a deadline on the Strait of Hormuz.
In a word-filled post on Social Reality on Sunday, Trump warned that Iran would be “living in hell” unless the critical waterway reopens to shipping by Tuesday, 8:00 pm Eastern Time (Wednesday, 12:00 am GMT). He also repeated his threat to blow up Iranian installations and bridges.
Responding X hours later, Qalibaf asked Trump to stop what he called a “a dangerous game.”
“Your careless actions are sending America into a living HELL for every single family, and our entire region will burn because you insist on following Netanyahu’s orders,” Qalibaf wrote, referring to the Israeli prime minister.
“Make no mistake: you will gain nothing through war crimes,” the Iranian official added.
Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz to “enemy ships” shortly after the United States and Israel began their air campaign on February 28. Tehran later said that navigation rules would change and that the sea would remain inaccessible to the United States and Israel for a long time.
Traffic through the channel typically accounts for 20-25% of global oil shipments and around 20% of natural gas (LNG) trade. The disruption associated with the ongoing conflict is driving up energy prices, including in the United States, where average gasoline prices have risen to $4 a gallon for the first time since 2022.
Russia’s envoy to international organizations in Vienna, Mikhail Ulyanov, said Washington failed to understand that Tehran would only agree to a deal based on “reasonable compromise,” they are not final statements.
