Trump says Cuba will fall soon

US President Donald Trump said on Friday that “Cuba will soon fall” in a new threat to the communist-ruled island already facing a US energy embargo.

“They want to make a deal really bad,” Trump told CNN in an interview a day after suggesting he would turn to an unspecified project for Cuba after the war with Iran.

“We have a lot of time, but Cuba is ready – after 50 years,” Trump said, explaining that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will be his point man on Cuba.

Rubio – the son of Cuban immigrants – and Trump have not hidden their desire to bring about a change of government in Havana.

Many people in Cuba fear that it may be next in Trump’s list of foreign interventions, especially after the United States and Israel launched attacks against Iran that killed the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

“We want to fix, end this (war in Iran) first – but it will be a question of time before you and many wonderful people return to Cuba,” Trump had said a day earlier, at a White House reception.
