The fall, which occurred on Feb. 26 last winter, probably would have been worse if someone hadn’t noticed cracks in the column on one of the garage’s poles the day before, and called 911. Later, engineers determined there might be an imminent collapse, and the city ordered an evacuation. About 12 hours later, a section collapsed and damaged several vehicles. Fortunately, no one was injured. The person who reported the damage may have saved a life.
