Independent journalists have faced an uphill battle in Hungary with Orbán taking control of 80 percent of the country’s media. Despite this, independent journalists became the deciding factor in the final results. They revealed how Orbán’s government worked to undermine the opposition through the country’s secret services, and obtained phone records between Budapest and the Kremlin, discussing sensitive EU issues.
Doctors will also be winners, as Magyar has promised to increase public investment by 1 billion euros per year. The pledge comes after a decade of underspending in the health sector that has left long waiting lists, dilapidated hospitals, a lack of equipment and, ultimately, a brain drain, Hungarian Medical Association President Péter Almos told POLITICO.
Orbán’s government previously launched billboard campaigns blaming doctors for the system’s shortcomings.

The losers
Donald Trump and JD Vance
US Vice President JD Vance visited Orbán in Budapest on April 7 to support his re-election bid, boasting that he would win and accusing the EU of meddling in the vote. US President Donald Trump gave Orbán five public endorsements in the past six months and vowed that Washington would provide Hungary with economic aid.
“Orbán must be re-elected as prime minister of Hungary, right?” Vance he told it Fidesz supporters clapping during a rally at the football stadium. But the words of support turned out to be empty, dealing a blow to the White House, which has now lost its main ally in Europe due to bad relations between the Atlantic.
