Russia’s state-run nuclear power company Rosatom said Saturday that a Ukrainian drone had attacked the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, Europe’s largest, causing no damage to critical equipment, but Kyiv’s military denied that.
Rosatom chief Alexei Likhachev called the incident “intentional” and said it left a hole in the wall of the turbine hall.
“This afternoon, a Ukrainian kamikaze drone hit the turbine building of Power Unit No. 6, causing an explosion that followed,” Likhachev said in a statement.
“The explosion did not cause any damage to the base equipment; however, it punched a hole in the wall of the turbine hall.”
Ukraine’s military dismissed Russia’s claims as “another propaganda ploy”. It said that the Ukrainian military did not strike power unit No. 6 at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

“The Ukrainian military operates fully within international humanitarian law and is fully aware of the consequences of any actions targeting nuclear facilities,” the military said in a statement.
