Tehran has targeted US military assets after what the Pentagon claimed were “defensive attacks” on the Iranian island.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has said it targeted US military assets in the Persian Gulf in retaliation for US attacks. The US Central Command said its forces intercepted several Iranian ballistic missiles and drones and did so “defensive strike” on Qeshm Island.
The incident began after a US warplane fired a Hellfire missile at an Iranian-linked oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday evening, damaging its engine room. Washington said the Botswana-flagged M/T Lexie was heading towards Kharg Island in violation of its unilateral blockade.
In response, the IRGC said it targeted an alleged US-affiliated vessel called the Panaya with cruise missiles.
US forces then continued the strike on the IRGC’s communications tower, in what CENTCOM later called it. “Self-defense attack on Iranian military ground control center on Qeshm Island.”

The IRGC then increased ballistic missiles on a “America’s air and helicopter base in a regional country,” as well “Fifth Fleet Command Center” in Bahrain.
The US War Department claimed that all of Iran’s missiles failed to hit their targets.
Two missiles fired towards Kuwait allegedly crashed or broke up on the way, while three missiles fired in Bahrain were intercepted by the air defense forces of the United States and Bahrain.
The Kuwaiti army has confirmed that it is responding to missile and drone attacks, while the Ministry of the Interior of Bahrain is asking the public “keep calm.”
Several videos circulating online purportedly showed air defense operations overnight, with several interceptors seen swerving and crashing into the ground.
Two hours later, the US military claimed to have successfully captured them “additional wave of Iranian drones” and “ensured no American personnel or property was harmed.”
The two sides have largely avoided direct exchanges since a tenuous ceasefire was established in early April, while talks have stalled over Tehran’s nuclear program and the status of the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran blocked traffic through the main energy hub after a US-Israeli attack in February, while Washington imposed a naval blockade on Iranian ports.
The IRGC warned that any violation of the ceasefire would bring a “hard price” for the US military. CENTCOM meanwhile said its forces “to be vigilant and ready to defend against unprovoked Iranian aggression during the ongoing ceasefire.”
