The Hong Kong Jockey Club has added a new feature to its facilities at Sha Tin Racecourse, opening Pony World at the famous Penfold Park venue.
Already known as the site where some of the world’s best horses were trained and trained during the Beijing Olympics in 2008, it has now been transformed into their younger cousins.
Although Pony World will not open to the public until June 22, club officials held an opening ceremony on Friday, where they described what will be found in “an interactive equestrian experience that combines education and entertainment”.
In a statement, the club said the public will be able to “visit the stables, take photos with the miniature horses, join interactive workshops and immerse yourself in hands-on learning in the activity area”.
Children aged 3 to 14 can also enjoy horse riding, provided they are taller than 3ft 2in (1 metre) and weigh less than 154lb (70kg).

“This close encounter aims to increase public awareness of horses and promote interest in equestrian activities,” the statement said. “Pony World is expected to serve around 17,000 visitors a year.”
