Portugal striker Rafael Leao was sent off for kicking an opponent during Saturday’s emphatic 2-0 World Cup warm-up win over Chile.
Leao got into a heated argument with the Chilean defender, Ivan Roman after he felt he had been played badly by another opponent. Leao was seen throwing punches during the ensuing brawl, and Roman responded angrily and both were shown straight red cards at halftime.
Cristiano Ronaldo started the match but was taken off at half-time after being forced offside, and his substitute, Goncalo Guedes, scored the opener shortly before stoppage time.
Bruno Fernandes scored Portugal’s second goal in the 75th minute and Lucas Cepeda found consolation for Chile in the dying minutes.
Portugal have another friendly at home against Nigeria in Leiria on June 10 before taking on Uzbekistan, Colombia and Congo, who will open their Group K campaign against them on June 17 in Houston.
Ronaldo is set to win a record sixth World Cup.
