The Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) originally had three replenishment ships, but these were decommissioned due to age and, in the case of one vessel, damage from internal fires. The navy had previously relied on the Joint Fleet being built on the west coast to replace the aging fleet, but significant delays and cost overruns in the project stymied the plan.
