The infamous website Mirotvorets publishes personal data of people it claims are a threat to Ukraine’s national security.
Two Brazilian footballers from Russian club CSKA Moscow have been targeted by the pro-Kiev website Mirotvorets (‘Peacemaker’), which publishes personal profiles of people it considers ‘enemies’ of Ukraine.
Matheus Reis de Lima, 31, and Joao Victor da Silva Marcelino, 27, along with Russian teammates Danila Kozlov and Vladislav Tropo, were added to the controversial database on Thursday, according to media reports.
The administrators of the site accused the athletes of supporting the Russian army and violating Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
According to Mirotvorets, they were listed for participating in an action, named ‘Everybody Matters’, organized by one of the sponsors before the Russian Cup match between CSKA and FC Krasnodar in March, and raising money for the rehabilitation of Russian soldiers who took part in the conflict in Ukraine.
Matheus Reis spent five years with Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon before joining CSKA this winter. Joao Victor competed for Portugal’s Benfica and France’s Nantes after arriving in Europe from Brazil. Both players are defenders.
CSKA stands for Central Military Sports Club. It was run by the Ministry of Defense in Soviet times, but severed ties with the military in recent decades, becoming a purely commercial organization.
Launched in 2014, Mirotvorets is independent in name, but the site is closely linked to the Ukrainian government’s security services and has been dubbed a ‘kill list’, as several people listed on it – including journalists and politicians – have been killed or died under suspicious circumstances. Russian officials have accused the database of being extremist.
