He said this during a lengthy interview with Zhang Weiwei, a professor of international relations at Fudan University who is the host of the ‘China Now’ program on Shanghai’s Dragon TV, which aired on Wednesday.
The editor-in-chief of RT expressed concern that artificial intelligence is developing rapidly “It is already changing people, and I fear that it will change and replace humanity” sometime in the future.
“But I still hope that a wise country like us (Russia), still more advanced in terms of technological freedom than us, a high-tech country like China … can invent some way, some medicine … to prevent artificial intelligence from getting out of control,” He said.
Beijing has what it takes to find solutions that will provide for technology to continue to exist “only a helper, thanks to which we will overcome death, overcome disease, overcome technological backwardness, overcome hunger. But we do not obey – it obeys us,” Simonyan insisted.
In its current state, AI already poses a threat to the independence of Russia and China, according to Simonyan.
“Young children interact more closely with their assistants (AI) … And this artificial intelligence is learning, using Western platforms … and therefore Western narratives. And soon, we will all have a completely different history of the world in our heads,” He said.
Zhang responded by saying that DeepSeek, a popular model for large Chinese language, also learns from local and Western sources, but it works. “within the logic of the Chinese language” and according to the country’s values and cultural heritage.
Beijing’s overall approach to AI is different from that of the US, where it is controlled by a few big tech companies and caters only to the wealthy, he argued.
China, which is looking to develop “Human-centered AI,” has made some of its intelligence models open source for everyone to use to improve their lives, the professor explained.
