Curacao fans were confused and the Germans were shocked after Livano Comenencia scored the goal for the smallest nation in terms of population to ever qualify for the World Cup against four-time champions Germany.
At 1-1 in Houston, a popular upset seemed to be brewing. Then came the wet break.
Curacao lost the deal, conceding two goals before half-time in what ended up being a 7-1 drubbing by the Germans.
“I really felt sorry for them,” former England striker Alan Shearer said. “They scored and it was maybe 30 seconds after that it stopped. So it killed their momentum.”
