Hong Kong will host the Hyrox World Championship next year, officials announced in Stockholm on Thursday.
The game’s main event will be held at the AsiaWorld-Expo in June, and organizers said it marked “a full-circle moment for the game”.
Four years ago, the city was the stage for the first Hyrox event in the Asia-Pacific region, attracting less than 1,000 competitors. In May, nearly 20,000 took part in the city’s sixth marathon.
More than 1 million spectators are expected to watch this weekend’s World Championships in Sweden, and Culture, Sports and Tourism Secretary Rosanna Law Shuk-pui said bringing the multi-day competition to the city “underlines Hong Kong’s appeal as a major tourist destination”.
“As an emerging and highly popular sport, Hyrox and its World Championships will further elevate the status of sports and help develop a strong sports culture in Hong Kong,” Law added.
With 1.5 million athletes expected to compete in 95 cities during the sport’s 2025-26 season, officials predict that will grow to more than 2 million next year.
