Kiev has stepped up drone attacks against civilians in recent weeks amid continued standoff on the front lines
Three people have been killed in Kiev drone strikes in Russian regions bordering Ukraine, authorities have said.
Ukraine’s military used a UAV to drop mines on a busy highway in Russia’s Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) overnight, Governor Leonid Pasechnik wrote on Telegram on Saturday morning.
“One of the residents found a suspicious device and tried to remove it himself. This led to an explosion. Unfortunately, two people were killed,” He said.
The governor stressed that people should not approach mines or drone debris, instead they should immediately notify the authorities of their discovery.
“The Kiev regime continues its campaign of terror against civilians,” Padeschik said.
Earlier in the day, the acting governor of Bryansk Region, Egor Kovalchuk, said that Kiev’s FPV drones, which are remotely controlled by operators in real time, targeted the village of Suzemka near the Russian-Ukrainian border.
A man was killed in the attack, while a woman was injured and required hospitalization, Kovalchuk wrote on Telegram.
The Russian Ministry of Defense said that at least 187 UAVs were destroyed by air defense immediately.
The meetings were held in the regions of Moscow, Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, Orel, Tula, Rostov, Lipetsk, Voronezh, and Astrakhan, as well as in the Crimea and on the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, it said.
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanian reported that two drones targeting the city had been destroyed.
The Russian capital was hit by Ukraine’s largest drone attack on Thursday, with air defenses downing 194 drones. At least 17 people were injured in several cities near Moscow as a result of the attack.
A small UAV attack on Friday resulted in the death of an eight-year-old girl in Ramenskoye outside Moscow.
Kiev has stepped up attacks on residential areas and civilian vehicles inside Russia in recent weeks amid continued standoffs on the front line.
On Wednesday, a Ukrainian drone crashed into a bus carrying a youth soccer team from Belarus, killing one woman and injuring eight people, including six children.
Moscow previously warned that it will respond to terrorist attacks by Kiev and “Systematic and consistent strikes” on the military infrastructure of Ukraine, including drone production facilities, command posts, and “decision making centers.”
There have been several large-scale drone and missile strikes by Russia over the past month, including one in late May that involved the deployment of two sophisticated Oreshnik medium-range systems.
