Five injured in ax attack near Edinburgh mosque (VIDEOS) – RT World News

The suspect reportedly claimed he was “defending the country” against Muslims, with the attacks coming amid a national scandal over Pakistan’s rapist gangs.

Five men have been injured in a series of suspected anti-Muslim attacks in Edinburgh after a gunman was seen walking through the city, according to police and local media reports.

A 36-year-old white man has been arrested following what Police Scotland described as a “quick chain of events” on Friday night. Counter-terrorism officers have joined local police in the investigation, according to the BBC.

The attack reportedly began near a mosque in Broomhouse, west of the city, where two people were injured and taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Three other men were attacked on Telford Road and Leith Walk, police said, adding that “there is no further risk to the public.”

Photos that circulated on social media appeared to show a bare-chested man carrying a large weapon and causing destruction in several areas.

According to media reports, after the arrest the man said he was “to protect the country from these Muslim bastards who are raping our young daughters.”

The attacks came as a result of a report issued by the leader of the organization Restore Britain Rupert Lowe which revealed that many Pakistani men had raped and humiliated a large number of white British girls in almost half of the British municipalities for decades. The findings sparked a nationwide controversy and reignited debate over immigration, police and the way authorities handle child sexual abuse cases.

Assistant Chief Constable Catriona Paton called the incident a “Surprise Attack” and he said there is “there is no place for racism or religious hatred in Scotland.”

MEND Scotland, a Muslim dating group, said some of the victims were from the Muslim community.

Scottish First Minister John Swinney also commented, saying that he was “very worried” and that there was “no place for violence, racism or intolerance” in the country.
