Some big Chinese companies are chasing the signature of Cabo Verde goalkeeper Vozinha, hoping to use the commercial power of the African giants in the World Cup.
The 40-year-old, whose man-of-the-match performance in last week’s draw with Spain catapulted him to global fame, has become a social media sensation, attracting more followers on social media than some of the biggest names in sports, including NBA star Kevin Durant and NFL quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
With Chinese referee Ma Ning reportedly expected to earn 10 million Yuan (US$1.48 million) from the endorsement, Vozinha could also earn several millions from various deals.
Speaking to Brazilian media, Bernardo Vasconcelos, the player’s agent, said Vozinha, whose Instagram following jumped from 50,000 to more than 14 million almost overnight, is now being pursued by several high-profile companies, and “many teams”.
“To be honest, the last few days have been difficult for him to manage,” Vasconcelos said. “Although Vozinha is very calm and can put his feet down, the noise after his World Cup debut has been huge.

“In the last few days, proposals have already emerged for Vozinha to do all kinds of things, many from Brazilian companies. But not only them; large European and Chinese communication and advertising agencies also want to work with him.
