Ronaldo’s historic performance comes days after he was criticized for failing to score in Portugal’s 1-1 opener against DR Congo. Speaking of the accusations after Portugal’s victory, he said, “I can tell you it was a very difficult week, a very difficult week where the public opinion was very strong for us, for all the players, especially for me and for the coach. But it happens, it’s not a new thing, because you can imagine, it’s been 23 years in this profession.”
