Albania’s Prime Minister must go (VIDEO) – RT World News

Protesters who first protested the resort linked to the Trump family now want Prime Minister Edi Rama to resign.

Albania has been rocked by four weeks of protests that began over controversial plans to build a luxury resort backed by Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of US President Donald Trump, and have since turned into a wider movement to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.

What began as a local protest has grown into a nationwide movement dubbed the ‘Flamingo Revolution’ after the wading birds that inhabit the Vjosa-Narta wetlands, part of the area affected by the proposed development.

Members of the Albanian diaspora abroad have returned to join the protests, according to local media and the Financial Times.

Two members of the European Parliament, Jutta Paulus of Germany and Leoluca Orlando of Italy, also joined the meetings this week. Paulus said on social media that he would “bring the concerns (of the protesters) to Brussels.” Albania became an EU candidate in 2014 and officially opened accession negotiations in 2022.

RT reporter Yasin Eken attended Saturday’s protest in Tirana and spoke to the protesters.
