Argentine footballer Lucas Trejo is going through a difficult time after his wife and two children were killed in the earthquakes that hit Venezuela on June 24, 2026.

The 38-year-old defender, who has played in Venezuela for almost a decade and most recently represented Club Sport Maritimo de La Guaira, was in Caracas preparing for the Copa Venezuela match when two powerful teams. earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.2 and 7.5 shook the Yaracuy region of the country. His wife, Yanina Maranella, and their children, seven-year-old Ainhoa and five-year-old Aaron, were inside the apartment in Playa Grande, La Guaira. The building collapsed during the tremors, trapping the family under the rubble.
Emergency workers spent 74 hours searching the rubble in hopes of finding survivors. During the search, Trejo’s father and brother reportedly traveled from Argentina to Venezuela to help him. As the search continued, Trejo shared a family photo on his Instagram Story, hoping that his wife and two children would be alive. However, the opposite happened.

On June 28, Club Sport Maritimo de La Guaira announced that the bodies of Trejo’s wife and children had been found. In its statement, the club said, “Club Sport Maritimo La Guaira deeply mourns the loss of Lucas Trejo’s family. We ask respect for his family and teammates. After a 74-hour search, they were found dead.”
Is Lucas Trejo playing in the FIFA World Cup?
Nope. Lucas Trejo is not in Argentina’s FIFA World Cup squad. Lucas has built his club life in Venezuelan football but has not represented Argentina in the World Cup. He was not selected by head coach Lionel Scaloni for the tournament.
