24 Sussex is not just a house, it is a national and international symbol of Canada, and part of Canadian history. Everyone from JFK to Jackie Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, Richard Nixon, Margaret Thatcher, Winston Churchill, Queen Elizabeth have stepped on it. Letting it rot was a stain on Canadian history, but not fixing it at all would be worse.
