Roberto took charge of Portugal in 2023, leading the team to an impressive qualification campaign before their World Cup journey ended against Spain.
Martinez praises Cristiano Ronaldo
Roberto hailed Ronaldo as an ‘exemplary captain’ and one of football’s greatest figures. “I arrived in Portugal at a time when there was a lot of confusion and questions about him. For his position, he has been an example in terms of goals, but also the average, the assists he gave in attacks, counter-attacks. There are not many Cristiano Ronaldo out there, the way he commits himself to football, he is a role model. He is a person to celebrate. What we need to celebrate the World Cup. What we need to thank him for the World Cup. A great example of football, an athlete, and the human being behind that athlete,” he said.
