US strikes Iran for second night as Trump says ceasefire ‘is over’ – RT World News

The U.S. Central Command said the latest round of strikes was aimed at targeting maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

The United States carried out airstrikes in southern Iran for a second night in a row on Thursday after President Donald Trump said the ceasefire was over.

Hostilities resumed after the United States and its Arab allies in the region blamed Iran for attacks on oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.

In its statement on X, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) said that US forces were “conduct additional attacks against Iran to further degrade their ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.”

“The United States holds Iran accountable for its recent unprovoked aggression against commercial vessels and civilian personnel freely navigating an important international waterway,” CENTCOM said.

Iranian media reported explosions on the southern coast, including in the port cities of Bushehr, Chabahar, and Konarak, as well as on Lavan Island. At least two explosions were recorded near the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, Fars News Agency reported.

A video posted on social media appears to show the strike in Chabahar, where Iranian media reported that a maritime control tower was targeted.

According to Iran’s national broadcaster IRIB, the attack on Chabahar, the country’s largest port, also damaged the Imam Ali hospital and cut off the main power lines. Electricity has since been partially restored.

The strikes reportedly caused a huge fire in Bushr.

Trump issued a warning to Iran shortly after the strikes began. “This is revenge for yesterday’s ship bombing by Iran. If it happens again, it will be worse!” he wrote on Truth Social.

Hours earlier, the president announced that the ceasefire with Iran was over. “I think it’s over. I don’t want to deal with them anymore. They’re straw,” he told reporters during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Turkey.

Mohsen Rezaei, the military adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, took the oath. “severe punishment” to US strikes.
