On Thursday evening, all eyes were expected to be on Pariswhere tension was feared to rise. Instead, it was northwest London that became the center of turmoil.
Scenes from Edgware Road showed riot police in full gear battling large crowds. Smoke filled the air, fireworks exploded in the streets, and debris strewn the streets as authorities struggled to regain control. Fans waving Morocco the flags stopped the traffic, with some of them even climbing onto cars on the grid, causing the area to come to a standstill.
Police injured, arrest made
The situation quickly escalated when officers were reportedly pelted with bottles and grenades as fireworks lit up the night sky. A police officer was injured after being hit by a glass bottle and was rushed to the hospital with head injuries. Authorities later confirmed several arrests for violent disorder as they worked to disperse the crowd. “We will not tolerate such disorder in our streets, or attacks on our officers,” the police said, adding that CCTV footage is reviewed to determine those involved.

Meanwhile, the parties in Paris continue
In the few changes that did occur, Paris remained largely celebratory rather than chaotic. Supporters from both sides flooded iconic venues such as the Champs-Élysées, waving flags and honking horns in a carnival-like atmosphere.

In the field, the French national football team won 2-0 against Morocco. Kylian Mbappé scored his eighth goal of the tournament, tying himself with it Lionel Messi, while Ousmane Dembélé added another and concluded the victory. The result takes France to another semi-final, their third in a row.
