London: British police arrested a 28-year-old man on Saturday (London time) on suspicion of murder following the death of former politician and reality TV presenter Ann Widdecombe.
Devon and Cornwall Police said the suspect was arrested in the county of South Yorkshire in northern England, more than 320 kilometers from the village in south-west England where Widdecombe was found dead on Thursday.
Earlier, police released a 26-year-old man arrested Friday a few miles from the scene of the attack, saying he was no longer under investigation. The army said detectives were working “at full speed” to find the killer, and did not believe there was any danger to the public.
Widdecombe, 78, was found dead in his secluded country house in the village of Haytor on the edge of Dartmoor National Park. Police did not reveal the cause of death, saying only that he had suffered “serious injuries.”
Police said they believed Widdecombe was attacked at around 12.30pm on Wednesday. Concerns were raised about him after he failed to appear at a television interview scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.
