An 18-year-old man suffered a wound to the thigh and a 46-year-old man was stabbed in the chest, while the remaining eight – including an 86-year-old Englishman – were taken to hospital with bruises of varying severity, the Navarre regional government said in a statement.
Six fighting bulls and accompanying handlers need just two and a half minutes to complete the 875 meters (2,900 ft) run from the pin to the bull ring. Their speed often catches the runners by surprise as more than a thousand people crowd the narrow road.
Every morning for eight days, hundreds of daredevils, many dressed in traditional white shirts and red scarves tied around their necks, test their mettle by running ahead of a herd of bulls through the narrow, winding streets of the medieval city. The majority are men.
