The man who threatened on social media in May to shoot the leader of the Reform UK party Nigel Farage was arrested, London police said on Wednesday, as concerns grew over the safety of politicians following the murder of Ann Widdecombe, a former MP.
The man was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of sending threatening communications to an MP, the Metropolitan Police said.
“I’ll shoot you in the head if you win,” he allegedly told Farage on social media, according to the Telegraph.
The July 8 murder of Widdecombe, who was an anti-immigration activist Reform Englandhe has led the party to ask for better protection of its members.
The suspect was held overnight and released on bail, police said.
Farage recently resigned from his post in Parliament amid an investigation into an undisclosed £5 million ($6.7 million) gift he received from a cryptocurrency billionaire.
