James announced his departure Lakers in June 2026. His agent, Rich Paul, informed the Los Angeles franchise that James will be entering free agency for his 24th season with the new team. On July 16, James broke his silence on the next chapter of his storied NBA career.

Speaking at Fanatics Fest NYC, four times NBA Championi reflected on his future, admitting that he is entering the ‘final stages’ of his 23-season career.

“Wherever I land in the fall, I hope, if you’re a LeBron fan, if you’ve been down with me since day one, I hope you’ll ride there with me. If you’re a rider or a die-hard LeBron hater, that’s what you do. So, I look forward to seeing you too,” he said.

James added that comments questioning his future have increased his motivation. “I’ve seen something on social media lately, wherever I go, maybe on a plane or something like that, then I’m not the reason anymore. I get that too, too. So, that’s a little motivation,” he said.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, LeBron made it clear that he remains excited about what lies ahead. “It’s going to be fun wherever I land. I’m going to do what I do best. I’m going to try,” he said.
