President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is scheduled to deliver his State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 27, 4:00, at the Batasang Pambansa Hall in Quezon City.
The situation is completely different from last year, when Marcos’ former ally, Vice President Sara Duterte, avoided the impeachment trial after the Supreme Court ruled that the complaint against him was unconstitutional as it was barred by a one-year statute of limitations.
This year, while Marcos is issuing his fifth SONA, the impeachment trial against the Vice President is in full swing. Leyte District 1 Representative Martin Romualdez, the President’s cousin, is no longer speaker after resigning after being implicated in flood control corruption. Marcos himself had announced a crackdown on those involved in the scandal in his SONA last year.
