West Indies all-rounder Justin Greaves made Test cricket history on Monday by becoming the first bowler in recorded history to take wickets in the first five consecutive overs during the first Test against Pakistan in Tarouba.
The 32-year-old returned figures of 5-27 on day three, producing a spell that helped win the World Test Championship for the hosts.
Greaves surpassed the previous record of four consecutive wickets, set by former England fast bowler Stuart Broad against South Africa in Johannesburg in 2016.
Playing in his 17th Test, the Barbadian claimed his first five-wicket haul as Pakistan were bowled out for 282 in reply to West Indies’ opening total of 311.
“When I came on the field captain Roston Chase just said ‘just keep being disciplined in what you’re doing’ and see if I can get wickets for the team,” Greaves said.
“The ball hit and I got the reward. Whenever I get the ball in my hands the team seems to me to be a strong player for them (and) try to get us out of certain situations.
