Team Alive-Rampage claimed honors in the 2026 Rolex China Sea Race from Hong Kong to the Philippines on Friday, although they fell short of their own 2016 record.
Phillip Turner and Noel Chan’s Reichel/Pugh 66 crossed the line in Subic Bay in a time of 49 hours, 55 minutes and 57 seconds, taking a close lead when the fleet left Victoria Harbor on Wednesday.
Despite the strong early pace, the light winds near the famous “Luzon Hole” demanded another attempt at the record, even if the speed was enough for a respectable victory of the decisive line.
Matt Humphries, the boat’s mechanic, said that although they finished 18 nautical miles short of breaking the record, the team was still happy with their performance.
“The boys pushed really hard,” Humphries said. “They fought for every mile and every minute. They were hot, making sure we got the Line Honors and produced a good result.”
Australian captain Duncan Hine said they had run “like a stolen boat”.
