Chinese Grand Prix: Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli who is the youngest to replace the Formula 1 pole

19-year-old Italian Kimi Antonelli took pole position at the Chinese Grand Prix on Saturday, becoming the youngest driver to achieve the feat in Formula 1 history.

Antonelli led Mercedes’ closing front row with George Russell to break the record held by Sebastian Vettel, who was 21 when he took pole for the Italian Grand Prix in 2008.

“I’m happy with the round I did,” Antonelli told reporters. “And I’m really excited to start on pole for the first time.”

The Mercedes duo, as in Australia last weekend, have been dominating in Shanghai.

Antonelli blasted to one minute 32.064 seconds, 0.222 seconds ahead of championship leader Russell, who had won the race earlier in the day.
