Another person was injured in the incident at the Holloman base in New Mexico, military officials said

One person was killed and another wounded in a shooting late Tuesday at a US Air Force base in New Mexico, according to military officials cited by the AP.

The Holloman Center near Alamogordo was placed on temporary lockdown around 5:30 PM after reports of a shooter near the center’s convenience store, officials said, adding that the injured person was taken for treatment.

“Emergency personnel are responding to the situation and there is no threat at this time,” The AP quoted officials as saying.

The convenience store where the incident occurred will remain closed until further notice, according to a post on the base’s Facebook page.

The identities of the victims have not been released, and additional details about the shooting have not yet been released.

Holloman Air Force Base covers approximately 93 square miles (240 square km) and is home to the 49th Wing, which performs national security missions and includes combat-ready soldiers and caregivers as part of the United States Air Force.

Several other incidents of violence at US military installations have been reported in recent years. In February 2025, a shooting at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico left one airman dead and another injured after security forces returned fire near the base’s entrance following a movement outside.

In another high-profile incident last year, a sergeant opened fire on his colleagues at Fort Stewart, an army base in southeast Georgia, leaving five soldiers wounded.
