
Many people say that geometry was their favorite subject in math class, perhaps because of the logical simplicity that geometric shapes present. They are the basis of a simple predicate: a line connects two points in space; it’s still surprising how much you can do with something basic! That doesn’t mean geometry is childish, though, as it can be deceptively complex. Try this quadrilateral brain teaser, as an example, and see how complicated a few simple squares can be. In the image below, there are a large number of small squares hidden within larger ones—perhaps more than you realize at first, and perhaps some that even escape detection. Take a minute and see if you can count ALL the squares. Do not ignore any, because if you miss even one, it counts as a bust….
