The European Football Supporters’ Group (FSE) filed a case on Tuesday with the European Commission against world football’s governing body Fifa over “exorbitant ticket prices” for this year’s World Cup finals.
“Euro Customers and Football Supporters Europe (FSE) have submitted a formal complaint to the European Commission against Fifa, alleging that the football body has abused its monopoly position to set excessive ticket prices and unclear and unfair purchase conditions and procedures for European fans ahead of the 2026 World Cup,” FSE said in a statement.
“Fifa holds a monopoly on ticket sales for the 2026 World Cup and has used that power to impose conditions on fans that would never be acceptable in a competitive market,” the group added.
FSE said prices for the July 19 final were higher than those for the 2022 final in Qatar.
“The cheapest final tickets available now start at US$4,185 – more than seven times the cheapest ticket for the 2022 World Cup finals,” it said.
In contrast, it said, the cheapest tickets for the Uefa Euro 2024 finals were €95 (US$100).
