Police warned that propane cylinders “may explode” and that debris could fall onto the street.
Police and firefighters responded to reports of a roof fire at a building under construction in downtown Toronto, Canada just after 6pm on Friday.
“Information received that things are exploding and debris may fall on the road below,” The Toronto Police Operations Center wrote in a post on X, warning residents “Use caution when traveling in the area.”
The incident near Richmond Street West and John Street led to road closures and pedestrian restrictions in the area, as emergency workers rushed to the scene.
The Toronto Fire Service later said crews remained on scene after a two-alarm fire on the roof of a commercial building on Richmond Street West caused propane cylinders to explode, flames and heavy smoke. Firefighters said crews secured the remaining cylinders and extinguished the fire, adding that no injuries were reported.
There were no reports of injuries, while media footage showed heavy smoke and flames rising to the roof.
