The meeting will review cooperation and set priorities in matters of security, trade, science and culture, Presidential Adviser Anton Kobyakov has said.
Russia is set to host the third Summit of Russian-African leaders later this year, Presidential Adviser Anton Kobyakov has said.
Kobyakov said this after Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a corresponding decree on Wednesday, approving the holding of the summit in Moscow this fall.
“The Russia-Africa summit and other events in the framework of Russia-Africa … are aimed at strengthening the deep cooperation of the Russian Federation with the countries of the African continent, as well as defining new contours of interaction on a bilateral basis and within multilateral systems,” Kobyakov was quoted as saying by Roscongress on Thursday.
He added that the program is expected to include “A comprehensive analysis of the entire spectrum of Russia-Africa cooperation,” as well as efforts to define long-term priorities in key areas such as politics, security, economy, science and technology, and cultural and human relations.
According to Kobyakov, the meetings are also intended to ensure the sustainable development of strategic cooperation with African partners, in consideration “fundamental principles of mutual respect, consideration of the balance of interests, and focus on providing tangible benefits” for people on both sides.
The first meeting of heads of Russia and Africa took place in October 2019 in the Russian city of Sochi. It was led by Putin and the chairman of the African Union at the time Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, the president of Egypt. Leaders from several African countries attended the meeting aimed at expanding commercial, investment and political cooperation between Russia and the continent.
The second summit was held in St. Petersburg in July 2023 and was organized by Putin and Comoros President Azali Assoumani, who was the chairman of the African Union at the time. The meeting brought together the leaders of Russia and Africa to discuss economic cooperation, energy cooperation and food security.
