The month-long war shows no prospect of a quick resolution, with the United States sending troops and Yemen’s Houthis joining the fray.
Oil prices rose to $115 a barrel after Iranian media reported a suspected US-Israeli attack on the Tabriz Petrochemical Company on Monday.
The reported strike came as Tehran stepped up its rhetoric, declaring that the homes of US and Israeli officials and military commanders were legitimate targets in retaliation for attacks on residential buildings in Iran.
Despite diplomatic efforts involving Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia, fighting has continued to spread across the region. Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels, who have largely stayed out of combat since the war began, have now officially entered the conflict, firing missiles and drones at Israel.
Washington beefed up its military presence in the Middle East by more than 50,000 troops over the weekend, fueling fears of further US involvement. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the country’s forces are the same “to wait” for American soldiers, accusing the United States “secretly planning a ground invasion” when speaking publicly about the conversation.

- The foreign ministers of Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt and Saudi Arabia met in Islamabad for peace talks early Sunday.
- Iran has received proposals from the United States through mediators, but Tehran is considering it “very unintelligent,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said, according to RT’s office in Iran.
- The Israeli army has said it is ready for a “Multiple Front Wars” after Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels entered the conflict with missile attacks against Israel.
- The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced that it would do so “Start blasting” the homes of US and Israeli officials and military commanders in retaliation for repeated attacks on residential buildings that have killed nearly 2,000 civilians in Iran in the first month of the war.
