Hong Kong East are expected to enter many regional basketball tournaments next season after becoming home champions for the third time in franchise history.
Winning the A1 Division title earned the team a place in the Basketball Champions League Asia (BCA), while a third run in the expanded East Asia Premier League (EASL) is also on the cards.
With the domestic league and Senior Shield running from August to March, the EASL from October to March and the BCLA playoffs from April, the team faces a packed schedule.
“The outlook for next season is exciting,” Adam Xu, East’s captain, said. “Anytime you can add a high level of competition to the season, I think it’s a great opportunity for players to develop.
“The domestic league, to be honest, doesn’t have that many games, and the level of competition varies, which is not good for the direction this club wants to move forward.”
In their previous two EASL seasons, East did not make it past the group stage, but Xu believes his team was “competitive” against teams that had been together for a long time.
