Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian criticized the US war against his country in an open letter to the American people on Wednesday, calling it an absurd operation that is costing their nation.
“Today, the world stands at a crossroads,” the president wrote in his message. “Continuing on the path of confrontation is more costly and futile than ever.”
Although Iran had seen many invaders in its history, “All that remains are dirty names in history, while Iran is enduring – resilience, dignity and pride,” Pezeshkian said.
The choice between war and peace would shape the future of all generations, he said.
By Iranian standards, an open letter to the people of the United States is unusual. So observers see it as an attempt by Iran to convince the American public that its government’s decision was wrong and thus indirectly force a ceasefire.
“What exactly are the interests of the American people that are being served in this war? Was there any threat from Iran to justify such behavior?” Pezeshkian said in the letter.
