Iran wants an explanation from the Saudis and the UAE after a Chinese-made drone was shot down

The United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia are known to have surveillance and precision drones in their arsenals.

The drone was shot down in the city of Shiraz on Thursday, according to Esmail Baqaei, a spokesman for Iran’s foreign ministry.

Baqaei posted pictures of the drone wreckage on social media, saying it could be “evidence of the direct and active participation” of some neighboring countries “in the crimes of aggression and war crimes committed by the United States and Israel against Iran”.

He added: “(Explanation) is required by one of the TWO STATES in the region that are users of this drone!”

Pictures of the destroyed plane were previously shared by Iran’s Tasnim news agency, which claimed it was a US MQ-9 Reaper. The debris was later identified as Wing Loong II, which is similar in size and appearance.
