President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky expressed concern that a long time US-Israel war against Iran could further erode US support Ukraine as Washington’s international priorities change and Kyiv is about to cut deliveries of Patriot air defense missiles.
Ukraine desperately needed US-made Patriot air defense systems to help it cope Russian daily episodesZelensky said, speaking to The Associated Press in an exclusive interview on Saturday in Istanbul.
RussiaThe relentless fighting in urban areas behind the front lines following its full-scale invasion of Ukraine more than four years ago has killed thousands of civilians. It has also targeted Ukraine’s energy supply to disrupt the industrial production of Ukraine’s new industries drones and missiles, while also depriving civilians of heat and water in the winter.
“We must realize that we are not the priority for today,” Zelensky said. “That’s why I fear a long-term war (with Iran) will give us less support.”
The latest US-led talks between delegations from Moscow and Kyiv ended in February without any sign of success. Zelensky, who has accused Russia of “trying to drag out negotiations” while continuing its invasion, said Ukraine remained in contact with US negotiators about a possible deal to end the war and continued to push for more security guarantees.
But, he said, even those discussions showed a great loss of direction from Ukraine.
