Wang Chuqin and Zhao Xintong are more than champions in their sports; the two are close friends and are looking forward to reuniting in London after taking the major titles on the same day.
The International Table Tennis Federation World Cup in Macau and the Snooker Tour Championship in Manchester both concluded on Sunday, with Wang and Zhao each winning the men’s titles.
Zhao, who beat world No. 1 Judd Trump, revealed the pair had been texting throughout the day to support each other.
“He had just won and I said I had to fight harder tonight,” the 29-year-old star said.
Zhao congratulated Wang, 25, on his first world title, and said it had been very difficult for his friend, as the “most watched” player.
“I know this title is very important to him, so tonight I also gave myself extra motivation, and I am very happy to win the title with him,” Zhao said.
